When you’re in the thrall of moving and it comes time to fill your Go Mini’s container, you probably want to start loading furniture and boxes right away. But would you believe that there is a right and wrong way to fill your container?
Packing Your Storage and Moving Container
Pack necessary and everyday items last.
While it may be tempting to pack important items and things you use all the time first (to ensure you don’t forget or lose them), this can make them difficult to reach once it’s time to unpack, since they’ll be sitting in the far back of the unit.
Weight distribution is key.
When loading heavier items, like large boxes and furniture, make sure to distribute the weight evenly from one end to the other.
First, pack your heaviest appliances and furniture in the back of the unit, gradually moving forward. You should also pack the heaviest items in the center of your unit.
Maximize your space.
Small openings between furniture are great for smaller boxes or items. Plus, this gives added stability to some of your taller furniture. You should also place softer items (linens, blankets, pillows, towels, etc.) between the top of your boxes and the unit’s ceiling.
Don’t rush when it comes time to pack or unpack.
Moving is stressful, but cutting corners will only make things more difficult in the long run.
- Stuffing too much into boxes can cause them to rip or be difficult to carry.
- Not wrapping glass or fragile materials can cause them to break.
- Getting a unit that’s too large or too small can leave your items more susceptible to damage.
